Peer Advisor interns support students and offer guidance in areas such as transitioning to college, connecting with academic advisors, campus involvement and so much more! These students are eager to help their peers navigate the transition to UVM, get to know the Burlington community, succeed in the course registration process and academic life, and make students feel seen and heard on campus. In order to acheive all of this Peer Advisors go through extensive training to ensure that they are equipped with tools to help students at UVM succeed.  Part of the internship also means engaging in various activities around leadership, professional development and social justice work.

WHAT EXACTLY DO PEER ADVISORS DO?

• Staff the University of Vermont’s centralized Advising Center (Davis Center, 1st floor) 5-6 hours per week.
• Highlight UVM’s mission, academic curriculum, support networks, and co-curricular opportunities, and provide referrals.
• Participate in a Peer Advisor Pump Ups as well as a week-long training session in late August to prepare and learn about UVM, yourself, and the Advising Center.
• Engage in critical and self-reflective conversations around social justice, diversity, and inclusion.
• Help students explore co-and-extracurricular opportunities based on student’s interests and campus climate.
• Help students understand how to conduct a degree audit.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned.
• Have Fun!!!
