We are hiring 5 Peer Mentors to work with incoming first year students for the entire academic year, 2018 - 2019. If you enjoy helping others and are passionate about the HCOL community, this position will afford an opportunity for you to gain valuable leadership skills, international mentor certification through the College Reading and Learning Association, and network with staff and faculty. Application: UVM_Peer_Mentor_Application2018A.docx
The Peer Mentor Program is an initiative designed as a resource for first year students as they transition to college life in the Honors College. Incoming students are grouped with an upper-class Honors College student who serves as the Peer Mentor - a mentor sharing experience, listening, giving advice, and ultimately being the resource students need during their first semester here. Throughout the year various programs and events are held to meet the unique needs of first year students in a new environment. Peer Mentors host these events to encourage our students to forge meaningful connections and build lasting memories together. A few highlights from this past year include a trip to Shelburne Farms for apple picking, Jeopardy games, a Super Bowl Party and plenty of arts and crafts nights.

Hi everyone! My name is Nathan Lantieri and I am a junior Community and International Development major at UVM. I am really interested in finding equitable solutions for the main systemic problems we have in both our American society as well as in our larger global community. In our country, several of the largest issues we have come from discrimination and ecologically unfriendly practices, especially in the city environment, so I hope one day to go into the field of urban planning and development. I come from the town of Kingston, Massachusetts, located along the ocean near the town of Plymouth. I’ve been visiting and loving Burlington since I was a little kid, coming to see my sister during her time at UVM. I’m so glad I have the opportunity to now be a member of the Burlington and UVM communities in my own right. On campus, I am a new leader in the Outing Club, the largest on campus organizations, and I am also the new Social Media Coordinator for this as well. This Summer, I will be leading Wilderness Trek for the Outing Club and working as an Intern for the Champlain Housing Trust. In my free time, I enjoy rock climbing, reading, cooking, biking, and hanging out with my close Burlington buds. I’m super stoked to have the chance to meet you all this coming Fall! If you have any questions over the Summer, my email is firstname.lastname@example.org. Don’t be shy! The peer mentors are here for you.
Hey! I’m Henry, I’m a sophomore math and physics major with a concentration in electrical engineering. Though I was born in Minnesota, my home is Beverly, Massachusetts, on the coast a few miles north of Boston. If you have any questions, please never hesitate to get in touch with me at Henry.Mitchell@uvm.edu.
Hi - Hey there! My name is Jessica NeJame and I am a junior from Charlestown, Rhode Island. I am so excited to meet all of you. If you have any questions or just want to talk, feel free to find me on Facebook or email me at email@example.com. See you soon!
Hello Catamounts! I hail from the great state of Connecticut from a itty-bitty farm town, and just finished my first year at UVM! I live in the GreenHouse dorms and am a Rubinstein School kid studying Natural Resource Ecology and anything related to outdoor education, plants, mud, mountains, and wild critters. I hope to minor in Studio Arts and Wildlife Biology. I went on Climbing TREK and now I lead rock and ice climbing trips for the Outing Club and coach for the Climbing Team. I am in Taekwondo club and am a writer for Headwaters magazine, an environmental publication. This summer consists of hiking on the Long Trail and working at the White Mountains’ Greenleaf hut, I am so psyched! If I am not sprinting across campus I can be found hammocking, contra dancing, bird watching, painting watercolors of the mountains, writing poetry, or cooking with friends — come join me, I can’t wait to share this place with you! firstname.lastname@example.org
Hi! My name is Lauren Rayson, and I’m from Carlisle, MA, which is a very small town about 30 minutes outside of Boston. I’m a sophomore majoring in Economics, with minors in Music and Political Science. On campus I’m heavily involved in different performance ensembles, including Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and Brass Ensemble, where I play French horn, as well as the African Drumming club! I also love spending time in downtown Burlington, especially watching the sunsets over Lake Champlain! Feel free to add me on Facebook or send me an email (email@example.com).
Although it is rumored I major in American Flatbread, I'm actually just an Economics and Mathematics double major in the College of Arts and Sciences. ("I love math!" said no one ever...except me.) I am also known as the smallest singer to ever grace the UVM Hit Paws Co-Ed A Cappella Group alto section, bringing down the group's average height by a whole inch and a half! As President of the group next year, I hope to continue this legacy. My other hobbies include yelling at people as a Group Cycling instructor at Campus Recreation. Come on down to the Gutt to work off those Harris-Millis-pizza-"gains". Last summer, I served as an Investment Research Intern for a financial firm, and this summer I will be an Actuarial Intern in Montpelier. I specialize in LinkedIn stalking and business casual shopping, so be sure to hit me up for help with the summer job search. Find me on Facebook or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for this or any other UVM questions you have! Aside from my busy schedule of singing, sleeping, sweating, math-ing and Peer Mentoring, I also enjoy cooking for my mentees. I am not above bribing you all with sugar...Cookies and tea, anyone?

Hello! My name is James Whitley and I am a sophomore Biological Sciences Major here at UVM. I am also a hopeful Spanish Minor. After UVM, I would like to go to Medical School in hopes of becoming a pediatric surgeon. I am from Middlebury, Vermont, which is a brief 45 minute drive away. I chose UVM due to affordability and the UVM medical center, which treated my brother’s diabetes and is a good resource for a Pre-Med student such as myself. I also love the location of Burlington and the wonky Vermont weather that comes with it. On campus, I am involved in RALLYTHON, the UVM Running Club and the UVM Premedical Club. In my free time, I serve as an Assistant Wrestling Coach for Elementary students back in my hometown. Also, chickens are my spirit animal, so if you have chickens or pictures, hit me up. I look forward to meeting you all soon. If you have any questions, please contact me at James.Whitley@uvm.edu.
Hi, my name is Josh Wolf, and I’m a junior here at UVM. I’m from Cooper City, Florida--which I like to think gives me a unique perspective on the school. On campus, I am involved with Service TREK, and I am a director for the school’s Alternative Spring Break program!
