The Peer Mentor Program is an initiative designed as a resource for first year students as they transition to college life in the Honors College. Incoming students are grouped with an upper-class Honors College student who serves as the Peer Mentor - a mentor sharing experience, listening, giving advice, and ultimately being the resource students need during their first semester here. Throughout the year various programs and events are held to meet the unique needs of first year students in a new environment. Peer Mentors host these events to encourage our students to forge meaningful connections and build lasting memories together. A few highlights from this past year include a trip to Shelburne Farms for apple picking, Jeopardy games, a Super Bowl Party and plenty of arts and crafts nights.
Hi everyone! My name is Hayley Barriere and I am a senior at UVM, originally from Shaftsbury, Vermont. I am a Global Studies major in the College of Arts and Sciences with Sociology and Spanish minors. On campus I am a Coordinator for Big Buddies, a youth mentoring organization, and a Peer Advisor for the Office of International Education where I work with students interested in studying abroad. I am also an avid member of an intramural volleyball team for people who do not know how to play volleyball – we have never won a game, but it’s lots of fun! I love to read, travel, and eat maple creemees by the lake, and I am in the process of learning how to ski. If you have any questions for me, please feel free to send me an email at email@example.com.
Hi everyone! My name is Katie Bedell, and I’m a senior from Charlotte, Vermont. I am in the College of Education and Social Services studying Secondary Education with a concentration in Political Science, which will set me up to be a high school social studies teacher! On campus, I’ve been involved in various choral groups on campus, I take jazz voice lessons, and I thoroughly enjoy attempting various intramural sports. I love spending time with friends, watching movies and TV shows (especially The Office), and playing the piano. I can’t wait to meet this upcoming class! If you have any questions whatsoever, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hey everyone! My name is Brittany Belanger and I am a senior Neuroscience major here at UVM. I am intrigued by traumatic brain injuries and concussions, and I plan to become a Physical Therapist with a specialty in Neurology after my undergraduate studies. I am from a very small town called Dunstable, Massachusetts, which is about three hours away from UVM. I fell in love with Burlington due to the yearly soccer tournaments that I had in the area when I was younger. On campus, I am involved in the Honors College Student Advisory Group, UVM’s chapter of the National Honor Society in Neuroscience, as well as being a biology tutor. I am very excited to continue my research this year that’s associated with understanding the neurobiology of individuals who have Multiple Sclerosis. In my spare time I love being outside, going to the gym, playing soccer, reading, and finding whatever dogs I can on campus to pet!! I am greatly looking forward to meeting all of you! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email me at email@example.com or find me on Facebook!
Hello everyone! My name is Courtney Brady and I am a junior Economics major with a double minor in French and Business Administration. I am from Blakeslee, PA which is a very quiet town that is 2 hours from New York and 2 hours from Philadelphia. I love yoga, hiking, biking, and snowboarding so I am pretty much every other student that goes to UVM. On campus I am the Treasurer of the UVM Economics club and a member of the UVM Fed Challenge team, so Economics basically rules my life and I am TOTALLY okay with that. I am also a member of Women in Business and the Horticulture club. Other than drawing graphs about supply/demand and nerding out about interest rates I also enjoy baking and cooking healthy(ish) meals with my fabulous roommates. I also love to help students in as many ways as possible which is why I am also a Study Skills and Subject-Area tutor through the UVM Tutoring Center, definitely swing by the office in L/L to make an appointment with any of the awesome tutors! Feel free to email me at Courtney.firstname.lastname@example.org to talk about anything you’d like from UVM and the Burlington area to the Dow Jones and exchange rates. I’m looking forward to welcoming everyone to the HCOL community in August!

Hey! I’m Henry, I’m a senior math and physics major with a concentration in electrical engineering. Though I was born in Minnesota, my home is Beverly, Massachusetts, on the coast a few miles north of Boston. Beyond doing math and physics, I tutor for the UVM tutoring center, I’m a tour guide with the admissions office, I DJ for WRUV (UVM’s radio station, your better alternative), and I play some intramural sports (Spring 2016 Inter-res-hall trenchball championship team, no big deal). If you have any questions, please never hesitate to get in touch with me at Henry.Mitchell@uvm.edu.
Hi everyone! My name is Aubrey Pelletier and I’m a senior zoology major in the College of Arts and Sciences. I also have minors in math and chemistry, and I’m from Randolph Vermont, about an hour south of Burlington. I love animals and science and the ocean, and I’m not sure where exactly that’s going to take me once I graduate, but I hope it’s somewhere fun! On campus I am a supplemental instructor for organic chemistry and spend a lot of time in the Pespeni lab working with sea urchins on ocean acidification research. I studied abroad in Australia for a semester last year, and at the risk of my roommates telling me I sounds just like everyone else who went abroad, it truly is one of the most amazing things you can do as an undergrad. In my spare time I love going on adventures, whether that’s to the beach, hiking, skiing, or just to Price Chopper for some groceries, because that can be quite an adventure on its own. I’m looking forward to meeting you all and if you have any questions about UVM, the Honors College, or just life in Burlington, don’t hesitate to ask. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org, or you’re welcome to find me on Facebook!

Hello! My name is James Whitley and I am a junior Biological Sciences Major here at UVM. I am also a hopeful Spanish Minor. After UVM, I would like to go to Medical School in hopes of becoming a pediatric surgeon. I am from Middlebury, Vermont, which is a brief 45 minute drive away. I chose UVM due to affordability and the UVM medical center, which treated my brother’s diabetes and is a good resource for a Pre-Med student such as myself. I also love the location of Burlington and the wonky Vermont weather that comes with it. On campus, I am involved in RALLYTHON, the UVM Running Club and the UVM Premedical Club. In my free time, I serve as an Assistant Wrestling Coach for Elementary students back in my hometown. Also, chickens are my spirit animal, so if you have chickens or pictures, hit me up. I look forward to meeting you all soon. If you have any questions, please contact me at James.Whitley@uvm.edu.
