Gund Affiliate, Associate Professor, Department of Educational Leadership, Foundations and Research, College of Education and Human Development at Jackson State University

Dr. Lewis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, Foundations and Research within the College of Education and Human Development at Jackson State University.  She serves as the Coordinator of the Specialist in Education Program within her department. Currently, she also serves on Jackson State University’s Faculty Senate as Senator-at-Large and on her college’s Tenure and Promotion Committee.  In addition to her faculty service, she served as Interim Director of Teacher Education in the Center for Teacher Quality within the College of Education and Human Development and as a site coordinator for the college’s Tiger Teach Teacher Transformation Program in collaboration with University School Partnerships for the Renewal of Educator Preparation (US PREP). Within the Center, she coordinated teacher candidate clinical placements, field-based course placements, and served as certification officer.  While Interim Director, Dr. Lewis managed and coordinated the Professional Education Council within the college. Dr. Lewis serves as a National Council member for the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and a national EPP reviewer for CAEP.  Dr. Lewis is an Executive member of the Mississippi Educational Leadership Faculty Association (MELFA) where she serves on the Collaboration-Professional Leadership Committee.  Dr. Lewis is a previous board member of the Mississippi branch of the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) where she served as Vice President.  She also previously served on the Advisory Council for The Salvation Army and on the founding Advisory Board of the Teacher Academy at Forest Hill High School in the Jackson Public Schools District.

Dr. Lewis was the proud recipient of the Departmental Leadership Award 2019 and the recipient of the Departmental Leadership Service and Professional Activities Award 2015 and Research and Scholarly Activities Award 2016.   Dr. Lewis was selected as Outstanding Professional Educator 2016-2017 for Jackson State University from the Mississippi Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (MACTE). She has a published book chapter and several peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Lewis has independently conducted professional development sessions for K-12 teachers and administrators.  She also has been an invited presenter at several university development seminars and has presented research at numerous national research conferences, such as American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) and National Association of African American Studies (NAAAS).
