The University of Vermont Career Center has named Leddy Gallagher and Dr. Ellen Martinsen as recipients of the 2026 Career Champion Awards. The annual award honors one staff member and one faculty member who do not have career counseling in their formal duties, but who go above and beyond to support students’ career development. The Career Champions were celebrated as part of this year’s Student Life Award Ceremony.
Gallagher, assistant director of operations for Campus Recreation, is celebrated for creating a supportive, growth‑focused environment for student employees and for making their on‑campus work a meaningful part of their college experience.
“The best part of my job is the relationships I form with my student employees,” Gallagher said. “I strive to make their time at Campus Rec a meaningful and impactful part of their college experience both personally and professionally. I am honored that these efforts have been noticed, and I feel energized to continue this work.”
Dr. Martinsen, a faculty researcher whose work focuses on host‑parasite ecology, wildlife disease, and conservation, is recognized for her mentorship and for helping students discover academic and professional pathways aligned with their interests.
“It’s an honor to be recognized as making a difference in the lives of undergraduate students at UVM,” said Martinsen. “I’m grateful to be able to work with amazing students and to help them discover the exciting myriad of opportunities awaiting them on their career paths. My biggest piece of advice is to follow your heart and to be open to a diversity of opportunities.”
