Peer Leader (2026-2027) - UVM Career Center, Burlington, VT (Hybrid)  

The UVM Career Center connects students & alums to people, opportunities and resources to help them find and pursue experiences, develop skills, explore interests, and expand their networks. As a Peer Leader, you will be trained to support all these efforts. Join our team for a chance to help others and advance your own career readiness through experience, reflection, training, and collaboration. Inclusive excellence, curiosity, connection, and building confidence are core to our work. We seek applicants who can contribute varying perspectives and experiences to our work.   

What You’ll Do  

Commit 5-8 hours per week throughout the academic year (occasional evenings/weekends; some hours may be worked remotely).  

  • Offer guidance on career-related topics in one-on-one and group settings including resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles.  

  • Staff drop-in hours to answer common career questions and connect students to resources and opportunities. 

  • Review career-related documents on Brightspace and provide supportive, actionable feedback to help students strengthen their career-related documents (resumes, cover letters, personal statements, etc.). 

  • Support Career Center outreach efforts and impact by participating in social media campaigns, distributing materials, answering basic questions, and direct students to relevant career resources and events (e.g., Career Interest Groups, co-sponsored events, initiatives, fairs, signature events, etc.).  

  • Support & assist with Career Center tasks & projects. Tasks may be tied to events, employer/alum engagement, workshops or curriculum development, marketing or outreach, and administrative tasks. 

  • Attended weekly team meetings & trainings. 

  • Support spring recruitment for the Peer Leader Program through tabling, outreach, postering, and participating on interview panels 

  • Participate in our Inclusive Excellence Education program to deepen your understanding of diversity and inclusion.  

  • Serve as an ambassador of the Career Center to promote opportunities & resources.  

  • Share your story to inspire peers and illustrate how meaningful experiences (internships, jobs, volunteer work, research) can lead to career success.  

Skills You Will Apply & Develop  

You do not need to have all these skills to apply; rather you must have a desire to develop the skills to succeed as a Peer Leader – we will train you!  

  • Earn your NASPA Certified Peer Educator certification, enhancing your skills and readiness for advanced Peer Leader roles. 

  • Career & Self Development: Build confidence by getting curious, trying new things, and taking initiative on tasks that help you grow personally and professionally. 

  • Communication: Strengthen your communication skills by giving and receiving feedback, meeting with students, and reviewing their documents. Practice clear writing, speaking, and digital communication across platforms and events. 

  • Teamwork: Work closely with staff and peers to support services and department projects. Contribute to a positive team environment by being reliable, collaborative, and respectful of different perspectives. 

  • Technology: Grow your tech skills by using tools like Handshake, Instagram, UVM Connect, LinkedIn, and Brightspace. Use digital platforms to engage students, share resources, and support Career Center outreach. 

  • Equity & Inclusion: Build your understanding of Intercultural Excellence by learning how to support students with diverse identities and experiences. Practice creating welcoming, accessible spaces through intentional engagement. 

  • Leadership: Develop core leadership skills—like communication, initiative, and teamwork—by serving as a Career Center ambassador. Help guide students to opportunities and show how meaningful experiences can shape their career paths. 

Requirements
  • Able to attend Peer Leader Orientation (paid-time): August 17–22, 2026 (week before classes start) 

  • Must be a UVM sophomores, juniors, seniors and grad students; we are able hire both Non-Work-Study and Work-Study students. 

  • Must be able to work Monday-Friday from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm. There may be occasional evening and weekend work.

Marketing Team

Body

We hire up to 4 students annually to join our Marketing team, this includes:

  • Social Media Assistant
  • Marketing Assistant
  • Graphic Artist
  • Short-Form Video Producer

For these positions we seek students who are passionate about storytelling, design, social media, or video production — and want to help fellow Catamounts on their path.  These positions offer a chance to build valuable, real-world career skills while having fun with a collaborative, student-centered team. From designing print and digital marketing to producing engaging social content and short-form videos, student's gain experience that directly applies to careers in communications, media, marketing, and beyond. Plus, marketing team members grow a portfolio, learn from professional staff, and leave their mark on UVM’s student experience.

These are part-time positions for current students; open to work-study and non-workstudy.
