Generator: Student Memberships

The Generator Makerspace is a combination of artist studios, classroom, and business incubator at the intersection of art, science, and technology. Generator provides the tools, expertise, education, and opportunity to create, collaborate, and turn ideas into reality.

A great perk of our Career Interest Groups:

Generator comprises eight unique shop spaces- Woodshop, Metal shop, Jewelry studio, Electronics lab, sewing studio, vinyl cutting, laser cutting, and 3D printing lab! The members utilizing the space range from small business owners, artists, engineers, hobbyists, and tinkerers.

Generator is located at 40 Sears Ln in Burlington. If you are interested in checking out the space, feel free to stop by for a tour!

Free Generator Memberships will be awarded to 12 eligible Interest Group members.

(That's a 10-month membership, plus two tool trainings on the rapid prototyping tools - up to a $1320 value!)

Eligibility

Body

Applicants must:

  • be currently enrolled as an undergraduate at UVM - and in good standing,
  • have completed at least 1-year at UVM - 1st year students may apply for the following year,
  • have at least 18 credits outstanding - and plan to be in Burlington for the coming academic year,
  • 18+ years old,
  • a member of a Career Interest Group.

Accepted applicants will need to:

  • agree to Generator's Member Agreement and the Liability Waiver
  • submit a Payment Acknowledgement Form (PDF) (this will generate a reportable 1099 misc form you'll need to include in your taxes each calendar year your membership is active).
  • Generator is a makerspace for up-skilling - beginners welcome! While you don't need expertise to get started, having a project in mind is helpful - taking advantage of the membership will require vision, time, and energy.

Tool Training and Storage

Body

Everything starts with training. Selected applicants get two (2) free trainings on the rapid prototyping tools (sewing, 3D-printing, laser-cutting, vinyl-cutting, and electronics). Following successful completion of the required orientation and tool trainings, members have access to those tools during Generator operating hours. Other tools such as those in the wood shop, metal shop, and jewelry studio may be used after a discounted fee-based training.

Students are responsible for their own supplies and storage.
