What is Battle of the Bands?

Battle of the Bands (BOTB) is an opportunity for local student bands and musicians to showcase their talent to the UVM community. Competitors perform over the course of three days in the initial battle rounds. Only four bands advance to the finale, so make sure to vote for your favorites from the preliminary round into the finale!

When is Battle of the Bands?

Bands must be able to play in a preliminary round on either March 2, 3, & 4. Should your band be selected as a finalist, you will also play in the BOTB Finale on Saturday, March 21.

Who can participate?

Musicians of all genres may apply - we've had a variety of acts participate in the past, from folk duos, to hip hop artists, to jam bands. In order to participate bands MUST have one or more members who are current UVM students.

What is the set length?

Set lengths are 15 minutes. Bands who go over their allotted time will lose points.

How much does it cost? Who can attend?

There is no entry fee for bands. All preliminary battles (March 2, 3, 4) are free and open to the public. The finale (Saturday, March 21) is free for UVM students with their CatCard and $5.00 for non-UVM attendees.

Where is Battle of the Bands taking place?

The preliminary rounds will be in Brennan's Pub in the Dudley H. Davis Center. The finale takes place at Nectar's (188 Main Street, Burlington).

What does the winner receive?

The winner of Battle of the Bands will be the opening act for SpringFest on Saturday, April 25.

What do I have to do to participate?

All bands must register by February 20th using the online submission form. Each act is required to submit a demo.

Submissions are reviewed by the UPB Concerts Committee, and bands will be notified if they have been selected to play a preliminary round on February 22nd. Please note that space in preliminary rounds is limited. We do our best to accommodate all acts that submit a demo.

What is technical assistance is provided at the event?

Sound connections, microphones, and lights will be provided, and there will be a sound tech onsite. Bands are required to bring their own equipment/instruments. Depending on the needs of each act, we may also provide a drum kit and bass amp, to ease with transitions.
