For Dr. Saleem Ali's Vermont Public Radio (VPR) commentary he elected to discuss his recent visit to Japan, where he discovered that Obama was all around him. For example, the little fishing village on the Western coast of Honshu is called Obama. And it is not just in Japan - "Africans and Asians alike have "Obama" in their lexicon - not to mention the Arabians who have an ominously similar common name in their directories." Dr. Ali explores the ability of the Japanese to put the past behind them and not hold on to grudges for things done by our ancestors. One excellent example is the Japanese doctrine of "wakon yousai" which means - seeking the best of the West and rejecting their worst.
