"In the year 2000, the United Nations Security Council passed Resolution 1325, which called for "special measures to protect women and girls from gender-based violence, particularly rape...in situations of armed violence" -- and requires that women be included in peacemaking efforts."
In the ten years since this Resolution was passed, it appears that the situation has gotten worse, not better. Gund Graduate Fellow Anjanette DeCarlo recently co-wrote a paper with her advisor, Dr. Saleem Ali "on developing indicators for whether reconciliation efforts after wars were working."
On March 15th Ms. DeCarlo will speak to the UN about the importance of reconciliation indicators, and of having women actively involved in the entire process.
