Schedule: Completed August 2009
Project Manager: Cara Hanson
Project Architect: Smith Alvarez Sienkiewycz Architects
The Harris/Millis Residential Complex was renovated in two phases. Millis (north) Residence Hall construction was completed in Phase 1 during the summer of 2008 and Harris (south) Residence Hall construction was completed in Phase 2 during the summer of 2009.
Each residence hall was renovated with the following scope: all existing windows, window blinds, exterior storefront systems, and exterior doors were replaced; the existing elevator, shaft, and penthouse in each residence hall were removed and replaced with a new ADA compliant elevator, fire rated shaft, and penthouse; all existing bathrooms received new shower bases, counter with sinks, lighting, toilet partitions; and electrical switches in all the student rooms.
The Millis Residence Hall will receive additional ADA upgrades. In the middle, west core of Millis Hall, the entire core, on all floors, were demolished and reconfigured to provide accessible bathrooms, bedrooms, and support spaces in one suite per floor. A carbon monoxide detection system was installed throughout each building and interconnected to the existing fire alarm system. All carbon monoxide and fire alarm upgrades occurred during Phase 1.
All existing windows, window blinds, exterior storefront systems, and exterior doors in the Commons Area were replaced.
The Harris/Millis Residential Complex Renovation has successfully achieved a SILVER Level of Certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) established by the U.S. Green Building Council.
