If parking needs are very small, we encourage you to view visitor parking and alternative transportation options; if these options meet your project’s parking needs, you do not need to fill out the form below.
Vehicles, trailers and other equipment require a permit for campus and may only park in designated parking spaces in lots authorized by Transportation & Parking Services. Parking on roadways, lawns, sidewalks, or any area not designated as parking are subject to citations and towing at the owner's expense.
Contractor Parking Permit
If parking needs cannot be met by visitor parking, or alternative transportation options, this process must be followed:
University staff responsible for the project, or “Project Manager” submits a Contractor Parking Request form at least ten business days before the project start date.
Transportation and Parking Services (TPS) reviews the request, approves, or provides alternatives.
If needed, Project Manager confirms alternative parking plan from TPS staff.
TPS Events Coordinator issues permit(s) to the Project Manager, who coordinates with vendors.
If contractor(s) have further questions after this process is done, they can contact TPS. Emails should include company and project name in the subject line.
Each permit allows only one vehicle to park in one space on campus at a time. If UVM has agreed to pay for the permit(s), the contractor must provide all vehicle information listed below:
Vehicle Make/Model/Color
Indicate if vehicle, equipment, or trailer is more than 20’ in length
Vehicle Type: EV/Gas/Hybrid/Trailer/Other Equipment
License Plate Number/State
If the contractor is paying, TPS will provide instructions for setting up and paying for your permit online.
Goals and Guidelines
Goals of Contractor Parking Authorization Process
Maximize parking for the university community
Accessibility & ADA compliance
Access to loading docks and loading areas
Free movement of emergency vehicles, transit, & service vehicles
Ensure infrastructure is not blocked or damaged, e.g. hydrants, vaults, etc…
Ensure only authorized, permitted vehicles are parked on campus for the duration of all projects
Contractor Permit Types
| Term | Fee |
|---|---|
| 30 days | $41.00 |
| Yearly | $370.00 |
General and Subcontractor Parking Locations
For large projects where there are many contractors and subcontractors working in one location, authorized General Contractors and Sub-contractors will be eligible for one parking permit per contractor and one permit per sub-contractor in a parking lot near the job site. Standard parking rates will apply. Contractors may be responsible for parking off campus and transporting their personnel to the job site.
Staging Areas
Staging areas must be planned to minimize impacts on campus parking and may not be established for the sole purpose of contractor parking. The project will pay the parking rate for the number of parking spaces used for a staging area.
Additional Parking Spaces
Additional parking spaces needed to support work, such as dumpsters, equipment, trailers, or supplies that are not located within staging areas must be requested and approved through the Contractor Parking Request Form. Only Transportation and Parking Services and Police are allowed to block off parking or roadways.
TPS acknowledges that the need for these spaces may change as a project progresses. Project Managers should provide the best estimate of these needs in the initial Contractor Parking Form. If subsequent needs arise, TPS requires a minimum of three business days' notice to provide permits and/or block off spaces. The project will be responsible for paying the visitors’ rate for these spaces.
Enforcement
Contractors are subject to the same rules as the remainder of the University Community. Contractors are expected to avoid unnecessary impact to university traffic and parking. Tickets written to vehicles belonging to contractors or members of their workforce are the responsibility of the contractor. Fines on all associated vehicles must be paid before permits are issued or renewed. Excessive tickets written to any contractor may result in the removal of their vehicle(s) by towing and/or the revocation of campus parking privileges.
Project managers and vendors can reference the university’s campus parking policy and parking regulations for additional information.
