About Us

Body

The Custodial Services department is responsible for the general cleaning and upkeep of campus building interiors encompassing over four million square feet of space in more than 140 buildings. 

We are a diverse workforce that reflect the demographics of our campus community and our region. We employ 225 people representing 22 countries speaking 28 different native languages. Our teams’ efforts contribute greatly to the quality of life for students, faculty, staff, and UVM patrons alike. Our custodial staff are highly trained and skilled in using state-of-the-art cleaning equipment, technologies and solutions to accomplish our work effectively and sustainably.

Our staff provide services ranging from routine and special request cleaning, to waste and recycling collection, to surplus property pickup and minor moving services.

  • Rightsizing custodial equipment inventory
    • Removed 250 pieces of outdated and outmoded equipment
    • Over 1000 pieces of equipment tagged with QR codes and logged in IWMS
  • Cleaning Industry Management Standards-Green Building (CIMS-GB)  Certification with Honors
  • Offering English language classes to our staff
  • Ongoing partnership with United Way Working Bridges
  • Enhanced custodial staff onboarding and training process
  • Focus on Sustainability Efforts
    • Transitioning from gas to electric vehicles
    • Collaboration with UVM Engineering students to develop and test salt spreader
    • We use recycled content products including tissue products, entryway floor matting and plastic bag liners. 
    • Preference for cold water chemicals to reduce energy consumption
