In partnership with the University of Vermont, GlobalFoundries employees can achieve their educational goals.

Undergraduate Majors, Minors, and Graduate Programs

There is a lot to explore in UVM's academic ecosystem. With over 100 majors and almost 100 more opportunities for advanced degrees, our fields of study are broad and the intellectual pools are deep. And the best part is that ideas flow in all directions — English majors study economics, engineering majors study ethics. Because knowing why and where to build a bridge is as important as how. Explore our majors, minors, and graduate degrees.

Educational Pathways

There are many ways you can access courses at the University of Vermont. Your educational goals will determine the pathway that is right for you.

Please note the following as you determine which pathway fits your needs:

  • There are limits to the number of courses that may be taken as a non-degree student.
  • There are limits to the number of courses that may be transferred into a degree program at the Undergraduate or Graduate level once you have been admitted.
  • If you are a veteran, please contact UVM Veterans Services to determine whether you are also eligible for veteran's educational benefits.
  • A Continuing Education path is ideal if you do not have the best high school grades, do not meet all minimum entrance requirements, or missed an application deadline for a degree program.
  • The Undergraduate Transfer path is ideal if you have previous college experience with a good GPA, have not taken the SAT or ACT, meet minimum entrance requirements, and know the program to which you want to apply.
  • The Undergraduate Student path can lead to a variety of Bachelor’s degrees.
  • The Graduate Student path can lead to a Certificate of Graduate Study, a Master’s degree, or a Doctoral degree. These options are available in both research and professional based programs.

Unsure about whether to jump into Graduate School? You can take some Graduate courses through Professional and Continuing Education (see Pathway #2 above). Please contact Graduate Admissions with specific questions or to schedule a time to have a conversation about using PACE credits toward your Graduate degree. Be sure to note you are from GlobalFoundries.

Some important restrictions to transferring PACE credits to a Graduate Program
    • Graduate courses are 5000/6000/7000 level.
    • Non-degree students who enroll in graduate-level courses may transfer the credits into a graduate degree provided they meet the transfer of credit policy.
    • Restriction on the number of credits that can transfer are specific to the degree level. Please see the Transfer of Credit Policy for full information.
    • Some Graduate programs have reduced tuition for out of state students. The reduced tuition is not available for courses taken through PACE; you must be admitted to the Graduate program in order to access the reduced tuition.

Employees' Responsibilities and Information

GlobalFoundries employees are eligible for a 20% discount on the University of Vermont tuition rate.

The 20% discount applies only to tuition. GlobalFoundries students must pay 100% of all other charges or fees (e.g., the comprehensive fee, course fees, late fees).

In order to have the discount applied to a student's bill, at the time of course registration, GlobalFoundries (GF) employees should generate an employment verification letter using the instructions listed below.

Tuition Discount and Employee Responsibilities

To support their successful enrollment and academic pursuits at the University of Vermont, GLOBALFOUNDRIES employees should be aware of the responsibilities and information to qualify for this program:

Responsibilities:

  • Students must meet the academic and non-academic requirements of UVM and the academic program to which they are applying to be admitted.
  • Submit an initial application for enrollment as a non-degree, undergraduate, or graduate student, and subsequent applications if/as appropriate
  • Coincident with enrollment, generate and submit a GLOBALFOUNDRIES employment verification letter per the GlobalFoundries process listed below:
    1. Go to WorkDay
    2. Select View Profile from profile
    3. Select Actions from Worker Profile menu. Scroll down to Worker Request and Request Reference Letter.
    4. Select the letter template "Global Company Letter Without Salary".  Select Submit.
    5. Select View Details to retrieve the document.
    6. Additionally, the document can be downloaded from your Workday inbox.
    7. Send the document to the UVM registrar at registrar@uvm.edu
  • Pay 100% of UVM tuition if the benefits eligible employment verification letter is not received by UVM before the add/drop deadline for the enrollment period; pay the discounted UVM tuition in full if the benefits eligible employment verification letter is received by UVM before the add/drop deadline. NOTE: it is the student’s obligation to assure GLOBALFOUNDRIES has their request and all information needed to supply this verification in a timely manner.
  • Pay 100% of all other billed UVM charges and fees (comprehensive fee, late fees, course fees); the 20% discount applies to tuition only

All individuals who make tuition payments are issued 1098-T federal IRS tax forms. For reporting purposes, the 20% discount extended to GlobalFoundries employees will be reflected as a scholarship/grant on the student’s form. While not common, this may have tax implications for some individuals.

GlobalFoundries employees/students are subject to all University of Vermont policies and procedures; the 20% discount is the only unique aspect of their enrollment. Some of these policies include:

Specific Financial Obligations

  • Registration for courses at UVM creates a financial arrangement between the student and the university. Payment of tuition and fees as they are billed is the sole responsibility of the student.
  • The student’s financial obligation to UVM is not altered by any arrangement they may have with their employer or another third party to pay on their behalf or to reimburse them for the cost of their education.
  • Any agreement for an employer to reimburse its employees for tuition and fees upon successful course completion is an agreement solely between them and does not resolve the student from responsibility to pay UVM according to due dates stated on their student billing statements. The student will need to pay UVM and seek any applicable reimbursement at a later date.
  • Students are responsible for dropping or officially withdrawing from courses that they are unable to complete following registration. Students who simply stop attending classes without dropping or withdrawing will remain enrolled in the course and will likely receive a failing grade on their transcript and will continue to be responsible for all costs associated with the course.
  • Students who do not settle their bill with UVM by the due date will be subject to a late fee of $250 and a block on any future registration and the release of grades and transcripts until the balance has been paid.
  • The confidentiality of educational records is protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The university will not share information with any other party without the student’s written authorization, including transcripts, grades, registration, and financial information.
