• Students walking across the campus green in the fall

Custodial Services provides services for over four million square feet in more than 140 buildings throughout campus. We are a diverse group that reflect the demographics of our campus community and our region. Custodial Services is made up of 200 people representing 22 countries speaking 28 different native languages. The efforts of our staff contribute greatly to the quality of life for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Our team of skilled employees service UVM on a 24/7 basis.  We work closely with other UVM departments such as Risk Management, Environmenal Health & Safety, Physical Plant, University Event Services and the Office of Sustainability to keep UVM a clean, safe and sustainable place to live, learn and work.

"On behalf of all Vermonters, I want to extend my deep appreciation to custodial workers across the state who are working overtime to keep our spaces clean and safe. Thank you for helping us slow the spread of COVID-19."  - Gov. Phil Scott

Green Initiatives

We know how much of an impact our departments actions can have on the environment. That's why we follow the practices below to help keep UVM green!

  • Purchase of plastic liner bags with recycle content
  • Use of "Green Seal" products whenever possible with ozone water as our primary cleaner
  • Migration to chemical free floor stripping
  • Use of sealed batteries
  • Preference for cold water chemicals to reduce energy consumption
