CEMS has developed a cooperative education program offering 6-12 month Cooperative Education (Co-op) opportunities to students. Students have the opportunity to work for an employer full-time for one semester, or two.

The CEMS Career Readiness Program works closely with our Co-op students to ensure they can still progress in their degree program while pursuing full-time work experience during the academic year.

In addition to posting your open positions with us, one of the ways to promote your organization and employment opportunities is to participate in our various programs, events, and workshops held on campus. Every year we host Employer Resume Review Nights, Networking Nights, Women & Non-Binary in STEM Conferences, and many more. Additionally, we can help you host your own informational company event or recruiting day. Please reach out to the CEMS Career Readiness Coach to get involved!

If your company hosts internships, co-ops, or full-time positions we host general career fairs twice a year, in addition to our annual STEM-only career fair. If you're interested in recruiting on campus, please email career@uvm.edu.

On Tuesdays from 2:00-3:00 pm, CEMS can provide you with a table where your company or organization can share company information and opportunities with students at a location in the STEM complex.

Throughout the year, we are always seeking employers to serve as panelists inside and outside of the classroom. We also have project fairs and are always looking for judges.

At CEMS, most of our seniors finish their CEMS experience with a capstone course where employers can hire students to work on a year-long project. In addition, we also have the CatCoders where our Computer Science students assist with short-term projects. Don’t have a project, consider judging at our annual  Computer Science Fair.

During their senior year, students in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and Environmental Engineering programs work in teams to address complex and multidisciplinary problems that originated as problem statements from companies, non-profits, faculty, or students. The projects are supported by the local engineering community and engineering faculty at UVM.

From a company's perspective, a capstone project offers the opportunity to work directly with senior engineering students, take a fresh look at a long-standing problem, or explore new ideas for their company.  Students are eager to engage in engineering practice as preparation for work in industry and to apply the theory they have been learning in school. Course material related to design project fundamentals and the involvement of industry contacts add to the student’s education and strengthen links between industry and Engineering at UVM.
