Please join the Gund Institute for Environment at UVM for a virtual panel discussion on Environment, Justice and Equity on March 3 from 1-2:30 p.m.
The event will feature Gund Fellows who are tackling questions of justice and equity in their environmental research. The panel will provide a forum for reflection and learning on institutional racism and injustice – and highlight opportunities for future collaboration.
Panelists will include:
Leon Walls (Fellow, CESS) on piloting a new environmental science curriculum for K-12 BIPOC students in Vermont.
Bindu Panikkar (Fellow RSENR) on characterizing environmental justice in Vermont.
Pablo Bose (Fellow, CAS) on the environmental vulnerabilities and public health risks facing global refugee camps.
Rachelle Gould (Fellow, RSENR) on five trends that are increasing equity and inclusion in ecosystem services research and practice.
Jesse Gourevitch (Graduate Fellow, RSENR) on how projected losses of ecosystem services disproportionately affect people of color and lower-income populations.
To participate the event, please join on Zoom.
This event builds on the Gund Institute's efforts to advance diversity, equity and inclusion. Supported by our growing Diversity Committee, the Gund Institute has outlined five goals:
Building equity and justice more explicitly into Gund research themes, which guide investments in research, outreach, and people.
Expanding diversity and equity training, with a focus on racial justice.
Amplify voices of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) scholars through Gund events.
Continue to emphasize diverse backgrounds and voices in our recruiting.
Grow our DEI webpage into more of a community resource.
