First-Year Process and Room Selection

Timeline

Roommates

Body

Roommates:

All first-year students who submit their housing application before it closes on May 5th, 2026 at 5th p.m. EST will have the opportunity to create a roommate group. In the housing application, you will fill out a roommate profile and be able to search for a roommate either via NetID or by preferences. If you do not find a roommate through the housing application, you will be able to see other students’ roommate profiles when selecting your room as well.

Finding a Roommate:

You can find a roommate using the UVM official ZeeMee app, and by using the search tool in the housing application to find roommates who may be compatible. You have until the contract deadline on May 5th to connect with roommates and create a group in the housing portal.

Creating a Roommate Group:

  1. You will need your potential roommate's NetID to complete the roommate group selection process
  2. Open your 2026-2027 Housing Application in the housing portal.
  3. On the "Roommate Profile" tab, select "Display my profile on the Roommate Selector"
  4. On the "Request Roommates" tab select "Search for Roommate by NetID"
  5. Search for your desired roommate's NetID (NetIDs are 3-8 characters, e.g. jsmith) and select "Add to Group"
  6. This student will then receive an email to thier UVM email address stating you have requested them as a roommate. They should follow the instructions in the email to accept the request on the "Request Roommates" tab of their housing application. If they do not accept your invitation, you are not in a group together.
  7. Once they accept your request all parties will receive a confirmation email. If you do not get this confirmation email, they have not successfully joined your group.
  8. Talk with your roommate regarding your learning community preferences and ensure your responses on the "Rank Learning Communities" tab match so the housing team knows where to place you!
  • Keep In Mind:
    • Your roommate must have submitted their 2026-2027 Housing Application to appear in the roommate search.
    • Roommate groups can be created and edited up until the contract closes on May 5th, even if you submit the application.
    • Roommate pairs may choose double or triple rooms. If a roommate pair selects a triple room, the third space will be available for another student.
    • Students in the Patrick Leahy Honors College, Liberal Art Scholars Program, Trail Blazers Leadership Program, STEM Scholars Program, SESP, and Impact Schlors must live with their cohorts and must form roommate groups with other students in their program. We understand acceptances for these programs are not finalized. If you or your roommate are accepted into one of these programs, we will reach out regarding any necessary changes to your roommate group.

Common Questions

Body

I'm unavailable during my room selection time slot
Your time slot is open for 24 hours from the time it opens, so you will have a full day to select your room.

What happens if I miss the deadline to choose my room?
You will be assigned a space in within your learning community. If you are in a roommate group you will be assigned a space with your roommate.

A note on singles
We have very, very limited singles on campus and many are reserved for medical accommodations. We recommend that students anticipate a double or triple room assignment unless they require an accommodation. If you think you may qualify for an accommodation, please contact Office of Accessability Services.

I don't see any single/double rooms/I only see triple rooms.
All spaces that are available to you will show up in the housing portal. If a certain room type does not show up, it means that we do not have any of those spaces left in the buildings available to you.

Why wasn't my roommate group confirmed?
There are a number of reasons why a roommate group may not be confirmed. Often, one student may have failed to accept the invitation to the group. Other times, one of the roommates may have been approved for accessibility-related accommodations, and will need to be placed in a different space to meet their needs.

I want to room with someone but we didn't make a roommate group. What should we do?
There is no way to guarantee that you will have a space together of you are not in a roommate group. You can always try to arrange a bed swap beginning in mid-August.

Can my friends and I select a suite together?
Students are not able to make a suite group. Roommate groups for suites can be a maximum of three, where you will select a room within a suite.
The other rooms within the suite are open to others to select.
