Transfer Students

Can I Live On-Campus?

Body
  • Incoming transfer students that are less than 20 years old on their first day of classes, have a housing requirement of 2 terms on campus. During these 2 terms you are guaranteed on campus housing in one of our returner residence halls. These students must fill out a housing contract once they have submitted their acceptance fee.
  • New transfer students that are 20 years or older on their first day of classes do not have a housing requirement. Students who do not have a housing requirement are not guaranteed on campus housing and can request is by submitting the On Campus Housing Request form in their housing portal. Students who submit this form will receive an email in the month leading up to the beginning of the semester if there are rooms available for them for the following academic year.
  • Students without housing requirements looking for off campus housing are encouraged to explore our UVM partnership apartment community, University Commons. Information about external affiliate housing is also available here.

Transfer Students With a Housing Requirement

Body
  • Follow same instructions as the first-year process

Transfer Students 20+

Body
  • Requesting Campus Housing
    • You may request housing but are not guaranteed space on campus. We guarantee space to all students with an active housing requirement. Based on the current number of students with a Fall 2024 housing requirement, we are expecting almost no housing to be available for students who do not have a housing requirement. Students without a housing requirement are encouraged to look for off-campus housing for the 2025-2026 academic year.
    • Steps to request
      • Activate your NetID after your admittance to UVM.
      • Fill out an On-Campus Housing Request form.

University Commons

Body

University Commons is a brand-new, modern apartment building reserved for UVM juniors, seniors, and transfer students. Ideally located in the heart of South Burlington’s City Center—just about a mile from the UVM campus. With private studio, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom apartments and amenities such as furnished bedrooms, on-site fitness studio, parking, close proximity to restaurants, Target, etc., it’s a great spot to settle in and make connections.

Living Off-Campus

Body

We have a number of amazing partners both on and off campus who are here to help you find housing in the Burlington Community. We strongly recommend starting the search sooner than later. UVM's Office of Student and Community Relations are your best resource for help in finding off-campus housing. Their Moving Off-Campus Guide will serve as your guide to finding the perfect spot.

*Catamount East is not available for spring-start students

Roommates

Finding a Roommate

Body

You can find a roommate using the UVM official ZeeMee app, or by using the search tool in the housing portal to find roommates who may be compatible. You have until the contract deadline on Dcember 12 to connect with roommates and create a group in the housing portal.

Creating a Roommate Group

Body
  • Once you have found a roommate, here's how to create a roommate group: You will need both your NetID and your potential roommate's to complete the roommate group selection process
  • Open your 2025-2026 Housing Application in the housing portal
  • On the "Provide Lifestyle Information" tab, select "Opt in to appearing in Roommate Search Results"
    • Note that if you have opted in to gender inclusive housing, your roommate preference must also have opted in to gender inclusive housing
  • On the "Request Roommates" tab select "Search for Roommate by NetID"
  • Search for your desired roommate's NetID (NetIDs are 3-8 characters, e.g. jsmith) and select "Add to Group"
  • This student will then receive an email stating you have requested them as a roommate. They should follow the instructions in the email to accept the request on the "Request Roommates" tab of their housing application.
  • Once they accept your request all parties will receive a confirmation email. If you do not get this confirmation email, they have not successfully joined your group.
