Returner Process and Room Selection

Step 1: Complete the Housing and Meal Plan Contract.

Body

The 2026-2027 housing application will be open February 9 through March 9, 2026 for current students required to live on campus. Based on the current number of students with a Fall 2026 housing requirement, we are expecting no housing to be available for students who do not have a housing requirement. Students without a housing requirement are encouraged to consider our Apartment Communities or look for off-campus housing for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Step 2: Participate in Room Selection

Body

Once you have submitted your housing contract, you will have the opportunity to select your room on campus. If you created a roommate group in your housing contract, you will select a space with those individuals. If not, you'll select a space as an individual. Please view the Room Selection tab below for approximate dates and more details.

Step 3: All Set!

Body

Sit back and relax! You've completed the room selection process. If you are seeking a room change or bed swap, please note that we are unable to process those requests until students return to campus in August. Please review our Room Changes page and the accordion at the bottom of this page for more information. Enjoy your summer!

Room Selection Details

Body

Room selection is divided up into events based on the size of roommate groups. Here is a tentative schedule for room selection:

  • March 19-20: Patrick Leahy Honors College Residence Halls Housing Selection (all groups)
  • March 23-27: Returners with Roommate Requests
  • March 30- April 3: Individual Room Selection

You will be randomly assigned a time slot within your room selection event. Shortly before your room selection event, we'll email you information with complete details on how and when to select your room.

If you are in a roommate group, you will all have the same time slot. The student designated as your “Group Leader” will be the one to select your room on behalf of the group.

Creating a Roommate Group

Body

You will need both your and your potential roommate's NetIDs to complete the roommate group selection process.

  1. Open your 2026-2027 Housing Application in the housing portal.
  2. On the "Provide Lifestyle Information" tab, select "Display my profile on the Roommate Selector
  3. On the "Request Roommates" tab select "Search for Roommate by NetID"
  4. Search for your desired roommate's NetID (NetIDs are 3-8 characters, e.g. jsmith) and select "Add to Group"
  5. This student will then receive an email stating you have requested them as a roommate. They should follow the instructions in the email to accept the request on the "Request Roommates" tab of their housing application. If they do not accept your invitation, you are not in a group together.
  6. Once they accept your request all parties will receive a confirmation email. If you do not get this confirmation email, they have not successfully joined your group.

Keep in Mind:

  • Your roommate must have begun their 2026-2027 Housing Application to appear in the roommate search.
  • Roommate groups can be created and edited until the contract closes on March 9, even if you submit the application.
  • Roommate pairs may choose double or triple rooms. If a roommate pair selects a triple room, the third space will be available for another student.
  • Students in the Patrick Leahy Honors College, Trail Blazers Leadership Program, and STEM Scholars Program must live with their cohorts in University Heights and must form roommate groups with other students in their program. We understand acceptances for these programs are not finalized. If you or your roommate are accepted into one of these programs, we will reach out regarding any necessary changes to your roommate group.
