The Gund Institute has launched a new website to better communicate our scholarly efforts to global audiences: www.uvm.edu/giee.

New features include:

  • New homepage to better displays news and visuals.
  • Mobile-friendly design that adjusts with all devices and browsers.
  • New Events feed powered by UVM’s central events calendar.
  • Expanded social media area, including a new mailing list subscription page, to support connections and engagement.
  • New podcasts of Gund events available streaming and downloading.
  • Larger fonts and photos to improve readability.
  • Streamlined navigation.

The new site supports the Institute’s efforts to advance the impact of our work through communications. The redesign offers a significantly improved platform to showcase our flow of research news and other stories, which have increased dramatically with our inaugural communications officer.

These updates to the Institute’s primary communications tool will continue. Future changes will address existing web pages, including People, Research and Education, which remain unchanged. The currently phase focused exclusively on the homepage and navigation redesign, and a handful of new pages (Podcasts, Events).

The redesign occurred primarily in-house. It was led by our communications officer Basil Waugh, who worked closely with Tatjana Salcedo from UVM’s web team to customize university web templates. Key additional support came from James Morrell of Burlington-based Digital Communications Online.

While the switch to mobile-friendly technology was largely overdue, it became essential when Google changed its search algorithm this year to prioritize mobile-friendly content. Otherwise, we risked having our web content buried in the world’s top search engine.

The new site replaces our former site, which launched in 2012.
