General Campus

Photography should feel natural, energetic and “in the moment.” Highlight the high level of academic facilities and diversity of classrooms when possible.

Students

Students should be shown in-motion, interacting with each other and their environment, using natural light as much as possible. We want to embody the UVM experience through the authenticity of student activities. Additional assets are being shot for the viewbook. For future photography needs please contact your internal communications representative.

Portraits

Portraits of students and faculty should feel un-posed and candid. Showing them within their natural environment, area of study, or interest will add depth to the overall creative work and storytelling. When capturing subjects, engage them in discussion to avoid posed shots and embrace their natural gestures.

Web Portraits

For the web, a simple head and shoulder horizontal style portrait is appropriate.

UVM Photo Library

UVM Communications manages a centralized library of Photos and Videos for use in professional UVM projects.  This includes a curated public library, and a more extensive archive dating back to 2008 - all organized and easily searchable.

COVID & Photography

During the COVID-19 pandemic, please refer to our guidelines for campus photography and videography (pdf). This document was last updated in Spring 2021. As communicators, we have a responsibility to consistently illustrate the healthy, safe behaviors we expect our community to adhere to on all platforms.

Additional Resources

Please contact art director Cody Silfies for information about setting up a photoshoot, or to pitch an idea for photography. Please note that while availability of this resource is currently limited and that we are not able to fullfill every photo request - we are still very interested in hearing your pitch for capturing content.
