Discover Engineering - Let's Make a Difference! Sponsored by the Lola and George Aiken Fund

Aiken Discover Engineering Day

Coming Spring 2026

Discover Engineering is a day of hands-on learning and exploration for youth in 5th-12th grades to learn about engineering, build skills, and network with college students, professors, and professionals in the field. Organized by UVM’s College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) and UVM Extension 4-H, the day includes an Engineering Scavenger Hunt (interactive exhibits showcasing various types of engineering and career pathways), and an afternoon of learning through hands-on workshops. Lunch provided. Sponsored by the Lola and George Aiken Fund.

The event features two distinct parts:

In the morning participants will get to meet engineering professionals to learn about different kinds of engineering and career pathways.

Members of the CEMS AERO club meet with an interested high school student during Discover Engineering

In the afternoon participants will continue to connect with engineering professionals and UVM engineering students through hands-on skill-building workshops.

A young engineer learns about the process of using Photolithography to create art with representatives from GlobalFoundries

Morning refreshments, lunch and snacks will be provided.
