CALS Associate Dean, Professor, Emeritus

Jean Harvey retired as of May 2022 having been a faculty member at UVM since 1991.

Prior to her retirement Jean was appointed as Associate Dean for CALS which encompassed her role as Associate Dean of Research as well as an appointment as Director of the Vermont Agriculture Experiment Station. In this role, she worked closely with the CALS chairs and CALS facility director to oversee and manage the facilities that support the research activities of the Agriculture Experiment Station, including the UVM Greenhouse, the Proctor Maple Research Center, Miller Research Complex, and the Horticulture Research and Education Center.  She continued her role as PI of the new ARS Food Systems Research Station (ARS), which will engage researchers both from ARS and throughout the university to study diversified food systems and the small farms that contribute to those systems. 

In addition to her leadership, Jean is well-known for her scholarship and commitment as an educator. She was the holder of the Robert L. Bickford, Jr. Endowed Professorship and continued with her obesity research program, which helped people lose weight through healthy and sustainable lifestyle modifications.
