Megan Epler Wood is a lifetime achievement winner and seminal thinker in the field of ecotourism who co-founded and led the first NGO in the world on the topic, The Ecotourism Society from 1991-2002. She is the Senior Strategic Development Advisor & Founding Managing Director, Emeritus of the Sustainable Tourism Asset Management Program (STAMP) at the Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise at the SC Johnson College of Business at Cornell University and the Principal of the international consulting firm EplerWood International (EWI) which has designed sustainable, regional tourism development projects working in 25 countries with support from development banks and agencies since 2003.
Epler Wood founded Harvard University’s first research program on sustainable tourism at the T.H. Chan School of Public Health in cooperation with Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard Business School and Harvard Graduate School of Design and pioneered online hybrid courses in sustainable tourism at Harvard Extension, Graduate Sustainability Program, from 2010-2021 earning 4 Distinguished Teaching Performance ratings from the Office of the Dean.
Her 2017 book, Sustainable Tourism on a Finite Planet is used as a text worldwide and was the lead author of the 2019 foundational report, Destinations at Risk, The Invisible Burden of Tourism among many other publications.
