BIO
Maura’s current research focuses on the societal benefit of Earth Observation, addressing the need to integrate relational values into socioeconomic value assessments by developing case studies and valuation methods. Her work investigates whether and how viewing the Earth from space through satellite images can shift power (im)balances, contribute to spiritual and ecological identity, and alter our perception of interconnectedness with the planet and all things.
Before joining UVM, Maura worked across sectors and disciplines as a flight physics engineer, sustainable transport consultant, and journal administrator. Her interdisciplinary master’s program in Global Prosperity explored sustainable and just transitions through mixed and participatory methods. This training culminated in a dissertation applying scenario analysis and ecosystem service valuation of development and conservation futures for a coastal wetland on the eastern Thames River in London, UK.
Area(s) of expertise
Relational values, Earth Observation, interconnectedness, value of information
