Basil Waugh has joined the Gund Institute for Ecological Economics as our new Communications Officer. He will be based at the UVM campus in Burlington, Vermont. 

Basil, who comes to the Gund Institute from the UVM Communications Team and the University of British Columbia, will be working closely with Director Taylor Ricketts in managing all communication aspects of the Gund Institute.

His job will include strategic communications leadership, translating and promoting discoveries, creating multimedia stories, and advancing our reputation across traditional and digital spaces. 

Basil is an award-winning communicator with more than 15 years experience working in public relations units at the University of British Columbia and the University of Vermont.

He has extensive expertise garnering media coverage for scholarly activities, from research findings to expert commentary, in global news outlets such as The New York Times, The Guardian, CNN and The Associated Press.
