Rachel Oldinski
Rachael Oldinski joined the CEMS as Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering this Fall.  Dr. Oldinski earned her PhD and MS in Mechanical Engineering in 2009 and 2007, respectively, from Colorado State University and holds a BS degree in Biomedical Engineering from Michigan Technological University.

She completed postdoctoral training in bioengineering at the University of Washington, where she successfully embarked on a research career that encompasses biomaterial science and biotechnology to treat inflammatory diseases such as osteoarthritis and periodontal disease.

Her work includes polymer chemistry, tissue engineering scaffold fabrication, and applied biomechanics, and she focuses on developing novel polymer systems for timed release of vaccine/gene vectors.

Rachael moved with her husband, daughter to Vermont from Seattle, Washington and truly enjoys the outdoors, especially fall and northern winters. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, hiking, skiing, quilting, and reading poetry.

“I was attracted to the collaborative nature of the research being conducted at UVM, especially between the School of Engineering and the College of Medicine,” said Rachael. “Coming from a small undergraduate college, I feel very comfortable with the size of UVM. The UVM community has been very welcoming and I feel at home.”
