I failed precalculus in high school. At 26 years old, while a psychology major at a community college in New Mexico, I took a physics course to fill a general education requirement. We did a lab wherein we successfully predicted where a ball launched by a spring would land. I was so impressed by the predictive power of mathematics that I switched my major to physics, and later to mathematics.
