Academic Probation
The conditions for being removed from academic probation are listed in the UVM catalogue.
Tips for getting off probation:
If you are on academic probation, it is important that you utilize the various campus resources that UVM has to offer. We encourage you to meet with an advisor in CAS Student Services to identify the resources on campus that may be most appropriate in assisting you to reach your goal of restoring good academic standing. Some of these resources may include:
Intercultural Centers
The Office of Internation Education – meets with international students on academic probation to discuss immigration implications
The Center for Health and Wellbeing – includes Student Health Services and Counseling and Psychiatry Services
Add/Drop
The add/drop period happens at the beginning of every semester. You can always refer to the academic calendar to confirm exact dates. You can see details for how to add and drop classes on the Add/Drop Process page.
Attendance
You can review UVM’s attendance policy on the Student Rights and Responsibilities page, and it is also typically included in your course syllabi.
Auditing Courses and Pass/No Pass
Students can request to audit a course or change the grading mode of a course to Pass/No Pass during the Add/Drop period (see above). More information about these enrollment options can be found on the Grades page.
Dean’s List
Full Medical Withdrawal
A medical withdrawal is only an option if you are withdrawing from all of your classes. See information about a Full Medical Withdrawal.
Full Non-Medical Withdrawal
If you are considering withdrawing from all of your courses for anything relating to your mental or physical wellbeing, we highly recommend pursuing a Full Medical Withdrawal (see above).
If you are unable to get documentation from a healthcare provider to support a Full Medical Withdrawal, a Non-Medical Withdrawal is only an option before the withdrawal deadline. For more information about a Non-Medical Withdrawal, see FAQs, “How do I disenroll from all of my classes this semester?”
Incompletes & Individual Course Withdrawals
If you have questions about withdrawing from individual courses, see FAQs, “What do I do if I need to drop a class after the deadline? (Course Withdrawals)”.
If you need to take an Incomplete, see FAQs, “What do I do if personal or health circumstances have impacted my ability to complete a course? (Incompletes)”.
Students who have taken an incomplete but are no longer able to finish the work for the incomplete by the deadline can email CAS@uvm.edu to request that the incomplete be changed to a withdrawal.
Returning to UVM After a Leave
Returning from UVM following a leave of any kind begins by completing the Re-Entry process. You can see additional instructions on this page if you are returning from a Full Medical Withdrawal, Compassionate Leave, or Dismissal.
SAP Appeals
See information about the SAP process. CAS students must work with a Student Services advisor to have their SAP plan approved. Even if you have a faculty advisor, you should email CAS@uvm.edu to schedule a SAP appeal appointment.
