In UVM’s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), we encourage all our students to become better, more informed global citizens. One way to do this, of course, is to take courses that introduce you to other cultures, languages, political systems, and artistic traditions. But there’s another, more hands-on way: study abroad.
When you study abroad, you gain that global experience by actually spending time in an international location, where you’re exposed to unique local traditions, learn a new language, engage with people who possess different perspectives and worldviews, and, ultimately, come to understand your place in the wider world.
All CAS students are given many opportunities to study abroad. Incoming first-year students can participate in one of our international GO Pre-Orientation Programs. Once enrolled, you can take a travel study course to locales like Spain, Greece, or Brazil during winter break, spring break, or during the summer.
Interested in studying abroad for a full semester or even the full academic year? You can participate in one of our “Semester In” programs in Ireland, New Zealand, South Korea, Barbados, or South Africa. Or, choose from one of the hundreds of Study Abroad Programs in other countries available through UVM’s Office of International Education (OIE).
Regardless of how you want to experience the world, CAS is here to support you all along the way. Explore this page for more details!
Studying abroad was genuinely the best decision I’ve ever made in my life. If you have the opportunity to study abroad, I 100 percent recommend it. Because of my time abroad, I’ve become confident in who I am and who I want to be. I have stepped out of my comfort zone further than I ever thought I could, and I am incredibly grateful for the places I’ve seen and the relationships I’ve made across the world. I will carry the memories of my time abroad for the rest of my life.”
