CARES Act Emergency Grant

The University of Vermont fully recognizes the disruption that has been caused to students and their families due to COVID-19. Federal funds have been made available through the CARES Act for distribution of emergency grants by institutions of higher education in order to help minimize the financial impact to our students. The following application is being utilized to review and award these emergency grant funds to eligible students in need.

Eligibility criteria for emergency grant funding has been established by the CARES Act. Please review information about eligibility criteria prior to submitting your application. Eligibility for funding under the CARES Act will in all likelihood exceed the amount of CARES Act funding available for distribution. It is the University's priority to support those most in need in our student body, while also reaching as many students as possible.

Please note:

  • You must have a FAFSA on file at UVM for the 19/20 and/or 20/21 year in order to be considered for CARES Act funds. If you do not have either FAFSA on file yet, you may submit the 20/21 FAFSA at www.fafsa.gov. 
  • Grants from the CARES Act are solely intended to cover additional expenses a student has incurred, or will incur, related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus that have not been reimbursed from another source.
  • CARES Act grants are not able to be used to assist with needs resulting from student or family lost income or wages.
  • CARES Act grants cannot be used to pay for tuition and fees.
