Laboratory safety encompasses the facilities, equipment, training, and practices needed to maintain safe research and teaching environments. This includes the use of appropriate personal protective equipment, proper chemical management, clear standard operating procedures, safe waste handling, effective signage, and good laboratory practices.
Lab work should always be performed in a manner that protects the health and safety of others; including employees, students, and the local community, as well as the environment. It must comply with applicable federal, state, and municipal laws and regulations, as well as University Policies and University Operating Procedures.
Activities in UVM laboratories are regulated under the UVM Laboratory Safety Policy.
