Postdoctoral Associate

Mojtaba Zeraatpisheh is a Postdoctoral Associate in Digital Soil Mapping at the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources and a Fellow of the Gund Institute for Environment at the University of Vermont. He has an MSc in Soil Science (Soil Genesis and Carbon Sequestration) from the Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences Natural Resources in Iran, and Ph.D. from Ghent University (Belgium) and Isfahan University of Technology (Iran) in the field of Soil Science, specializing in Pedometrics and Digital Soil Mapping.

Before starting at UVM, Mojtaba worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher for 3.5 years at Henan University in China in Machine Learning for Soil Mapping and Soil Health/Land Use Change. After 12 years of studying and working mainly in the arid and semi-arid regions, he is excited to apply his research skillset to different areas with different climatic and management factors. Mojtaba is currently investigating the impact of environmental factors on Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) content in the northeastern US through a digital soil mapping approach. His work typically combines open source and field data, remote sensing, machine learning, thematic maps, climatic factors, legacy soil data, and land use/land cover maps to gain insight on SOC controlling factors.
