Students petitioning the Graduate Standards Committee to meet this requirement must demonstrate that they have the skills necessary to work as an environmental professional, such as in an environmentally focused business or nonprofit organization, government agency, or research institution. Thus, the student must present more than just the scholarly work expected of an accomplished PhD student or academic scientist.

NOTE: This form should be used for both of the following purposes:

1) To submit to the Graduate Standards Committee a proposal for their consideration and feedback. Please explain how you propose to meet the benchmarks listed (i.e. budget, report for client, etc.)

2) To submit to the Graduate Standards Committee a final report on your completed professional skills experience. Please explain how you have successfully met the benckmarks listed.

Materials presented should include specific documentation that demonstrates work/proficiency with: client solicitation/marketing, proposal preparation, presentations to clients, budget management, project reporting, and paper writing. This list is not meant to be exclusive – other documentation of competency may be substituted for consideration by the Graduate Standards Committee.

NOTE: Proposals are to be submitted for approval by the Graduate Standards Committee the semester before you plan to fulfill this requirement.

Proposals/Final Reports will be due around 10/15 for evaluation in the Fall term, or around 3/1 for evaluation in the Spring term. Exact deadlines will be communicated in advance each term by the Graduate Program Coordinator.
