While the organization mourns Pete’s passing, they welcome community members living with and beyond cancer and their caregivers to come together for the “Dig In” Against Cancer night on Sunday, June 1 at 5:05 p.m.

The Vermont Lake Monsters have generously discounted over 250 tickets for people living with and beyond cancer and their family members, caregivers, and clinicians.

More to the Story

The UVM Cancer Center first joined forces with the Lake Monsters in 2023 to raise awareness about skin cancer prevention. Vermont has one of the rates of melanoma cases in the nation. The best way to prevent skin cancer is by limiting sun exposure, which is why in 2023, the UVM Cancer Center sponsored six sunscreen dispensers around the grandstand at Centennial Field. This summer, the Lake Monsters will continue to offer free SPF 30 through these dispensers as well as mid-inning sun safety education trivia.

Additionally, during Lake Monsters staff orientation, the UVM Cancer Center’s Community Outreach and Engagement team provided education to 100 employees ahead of a sunny season. Employees were provided general sun safety tips and tricks as well as prevention resources including SPF 30 sunscreen and UPF shirts.

Beyond skin cancer, the UVM Cancer Center Community Outreach and Engagement team works to educate community members about all cancer screenings and share prevention tips. Because lavender is the universal color that represents all cancer types the UVM Cancer Center is encouraging fans to wear lavender as a show of support at the June 1st game.
