I began my role in June 2024, after serving as the Chair at Indiana University for 8 years.  People often ask me: “What brought you to UVM?”  My attraction to UVM and Vermont reflects my values: 1) the importance of FAMILY: my son and his husband are hoping to start a family here in Vermont; 2) REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS ……this was part of the UVM job description; 3) TEAM – the department has outstanding faculty and I look forward to increasing collaboration and teamwork; and 4) HARD WORK. I am committed to the growth of the department and to furthering our mission of excellent education, cutting-edge research, and superb clinical care.

We recently increased our resident complement from three to four residents per year. We have ACGME-approved fellowships in REI, and MFM. We recently received approval to start a one-year clinical research fellowship. We strive to foster a supportive environment where our students, residents, and fellows can obtain clinical and scientific knowledge and learn state-of-the-art techniques. This environment provides our trainees with the clinical and academic education necessary to support them in becoming highly skilled and compassionate medical professionals with a commitment to health care. 

As University based health-care professionals and educators, we work to create a full academic environment. Our faculty actively engages in both internally funded and NIH-funded clinical and basic research that seeks to have a positive impact on the advancement of both biomedical science and health care in the field of Women's Health. Our faculty are dedicated to public health, and many are supported to improve maternal-child health through VCHIP (Vermont Child Health Improvement Program) supported by the State of Vermont and the Larner College of Medicine.

Our department is composed of over 70 Board eligible/certified academic physicians and 5 Ph.D. faculty members. Our academic physicians have sub-specialty interests and training in Gynecologic Oncology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, minimally invasive Gynecologic Surgery, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Complex Family Planning, Urogynecology, and Reproductive Genetics. Our advanced practice providers include 11 Certified Nurse Midwives, 4 Nurse Practitioners and 3 Physician Assistants. In addition, approximately 18 community-based private practice physicians in the Burlington and surrounding area, most having part-time clinical faculty appointments, actively participate in our clinical teaching programs. As health-care professionals and educators, we strive to provide compassionate and holistic care for our patients, coupled with the ability to offer the latest in clinical and technological advancements in OBGYN.
