Education
Our active Ph.D.-supported research program, 4-year Ob/Gyn residency, and clerkships for University of Vermont medical students, along with visiting students, engage in developing future leaders in our field. The Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship has one fellow position available each year for three years, offering a high-quality mentored research experience focused on the basic mechanisms and pathophysiology of pregnancy disorders.
Research
The Maternal Fetal Medicine faculty adopts a comprehensive research approach addressing key issues in the field, supported by external funding. Ongoing investigations include quality assessment and outcomes research with Vermont Children’s and Infants Program (VCHIP), and hypothesis-driven studies on vascular adaptation in fetal growth restriction and preeclampsia, as well as mechanisms linked to myometrial growth and preterm delivery risks. Additional studies focus on the effects of obesity on pregnancy outcomes in Vermont and coagulation changes during pregnancy.
Collaboration with the Reproductive Investigation division, led by Elizabeth Bonney, M.D., fosters joint research meetings and aligned funding efforts. Partnerships are also established with the Departments of Biochemistry, Medicine, Neurology, and Pharmacology at The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine, University of Vermont.
Patient Care
The clinical services of the Maternal Fetal Medicine division are provided through the Women's Health Care Service at The University of Vermont Medical Center. Information regarding the scope of these services can be accessed through The University of Vermont Medical Center Women's Health Care Service.
