When UVM started using Microsoft Teams for remote and hybrid instruction, ETS created a team for every course each semester. We intended to keep course teams for two years, aligning with the retention policy for course spaces in Blackboard LMS. But as UVM started our journey to Brightspace, we decided not to remove course teams while so much teaching technology was in flux.
Our transition to Brightspace is complete, and we now have a significant backlog of old course teams to clean up to ensure that we are using Microsoft services and cloud storage effectively. Earlier this semester, we removed course teams associated with the Fall 2020. We are moving ahead with removal of the Spring and Summer 2021 terms at the end of this coming May.
Instructors may want to review the contents of these old teams and possibly export files, including class meeting recordings and other contents, to preserve them. Because we archive course teams after the semester is complete, you’ll first need to restore your teams before you can access their contents.
We’ve developed the following guides to help:
Removal of subsequent semesters of old course teams will follow until we are positioned to remove course teams when corresponding old course spaces are removed from Brightspace.
