UVM's former antivirus software ESET NOD32 will expire on November 25, 2011. NOD32 has been replaced by Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection (FEP) for university-owned computers and Microsoft Security Essentials for student-owned and faculty/staff home computers. If you use a Windows computer with ESET NOD32 installed, it is vital to move to the new antivirus software before November 25 to maintain antivirus protection.

The Forefront installer is available in the following location:

A link to download MS Security Essentials also can be found at this site.

Be sure to uninstall ESET NOD32 before installing Forefront or Security Essentials. It is advised that you uninstall NOD32 by going to the Start/Windows menu, then selecting "All Programs," "ESET," "Uninstall." Due to a bug in NOD32, use of the "Add/Remove Software" or "Uninstall a Program" Control Panel is not recommended.

ETS previously announced the product change from ESET NOD32 to Microsoft Forefront/Security Essentials in May 2011.

More information about Security Essentials, Forefront and uninstalling ESET NOD32 is available at the IT antivirus Web page.  If you need direct assistance, contact the UVM Computing Helpline at (802) 656-2604.

* Microsoft Forefront and Security Essentials are for Windows computers only.  UVM does not currently license antivirus software for Macintosh OS X.
