The Board of Trustees of the University of Vermont conducted an extensive six-month search for the institution’s 28th president.

After assembling a search advisory committee co-chaired by Trustee Ron Lumbra and Trustee Cynthia Barnhart, a global search was conducted with assistance from higher education search professionals at Isaacson, Miller.

During the process, which was launched in September 2024, the search advisory committee solicited feedback from the community in numerous ways, including via an online feedback form, focus groups, and meetings with campus leaders.

At a March 20 meeting, the Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Marlene Tromp as the next president of the University of Vermont, with an official start date of July 1, 2025.

The University of Vermont is excited to welcome Dr. Tromp, a proven leader who brings a breadth of experience that will help guide the university through the years ahead.
