I am pleased to share some important updates about the overall evolution of our IT Shared Services, particularly about the IT Services Hubs and the IT services available to you at UVM. I also want to acknowledge the contributions of many members of the UVM community whose suggestions and hard work continue to guide our IT Shared Services journey in the right direction.
Update on the IT Service Hubs
After an internal search, Phil Plourde, a key member of the Client Services team, and Andrew Hendrickson, the supervisor for the College of Arts & Sciences Computing Services team, were both selected to become the supervisors who will lead the IT Shared Services Hubs effective August 2, 2021. The hiring of these supervisors is a significant development that has helped accelerate the establishment of the structure of the IT Services Hubs. The chart below illustrates the composition of the two IT Service Hubs, and how each College or School is assigned to a particular hub.
Support Team | Hub 1 | Hub 2 |
---|---|---|
Supervisor | Andrew Hendrickson | Phil Plourde |
Units Supported | CALS, Extension, Arts & Sciences, CDE, CESS, Honors College, RSENR | Admin-President, Admin-Provost, Admin-VP Ops, Admin-VP Finance, CEMS, GSB |

IT Services Available at UVM
As we prepare for the start of the semester, we want to remind all members of the UVM community of the wide variety of technologies currently available to support teaching, learning and administrative processes. Please take a moment to browse the IT Service Catalog to become aware of the tools, technologies and services that are available to you. These IT services include a user-friendly Software Distribution Portal that makes a range of software available to faculty, staff and students wherever and whenever, and on any device. We encourage you to read more about the software portal at https://www.uvm.edu/it/kb/article/appsanywhere/, and to take advantage of the benefits it brings.
Safe Computing Practices
The safety and security of the UVM community remains our top priority at all times. For that reason, we encourage safe computing practices that can protect individuals, their personal information as well as their intellectual property. The following video provides detailed information that pertains to safe computing practice https://go.uvm.edu/isonfo2021. Following are simple hints that are also valuable:
- Don't share your passwords with anyone at any time
- Think before you click on a link embedded in an unexpected email
When in doubt, contact the Information Security Office, and forward the suspicious emails as an attachment with full headers to abuse@uvm.edu
We are excited about the start of the new academic year and the progress we are making to build a sense of digital equity on our campus. We remain committed to excellence in the delivery of service offerings to the campus community, and we will continue to work with key stakeholders in each academic unit to further enhance IT services at UVM.
We invite you to visit the IT Shared Services page at https://www.uvm.edu/it/sharedservices for more information about the overall progress of our journey.
