T. Simeon Ananou

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is the senior-level position responsible for the overall leadership of information technology at the University of Vermont. The CIO reports to the president and is an active member of the senior leadership team, providing the IT strategy and vision that advances the mission, vision, and goals of the University of Vermont.

The CIO leads Enterprise Technology Services (ETS), providing vision, leadership, strategy development, planning, and management for this central information technology group.

The CIO provides leadership for all aspects of information technology, including administrative, academic, and research functions. The CIO leads ETS, distributed information technology units, and campus stakeholders to optimize the efficiency of institutional systems; manage information technology challenges involving risk; achieve greater levels of cost savings, service, and innovation; provide a high level of information technology support to both central and local units; and ensure that these systems and services meet critical stakeholder needs.

Biography

Dr. T. Simeon Ananou, an advocate and a champion of digital transformation for more than 20 years, became Chief Information Officer for the University of Vermont in July 2018. He is responsible for all areas of information technology at the institution, where he engages with the campus community to position IT as a strategic asset toward advancing the university’s goals.

Dr. Ananou has presented at several national and international conferences on the role and the impact of information technology on higher education. He served as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Educational Policy and Leadership at the University of Albany and as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Information and Decision Sciences at Salisbury University.

Prior to joining the University of Vermont, Dr. Ananou served as Vice President and CIO at the University at Albany, SUNY; Chief Information Officer at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland; and Associate Provost for Information and Administrative Technology Services and Chief Information Officer at Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the Ohio State University, a Master of Business Administration in Computer Information Systems from Baker College, and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration and Leadership Studies from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In addition, he attended Harvard University’s Institute for Educational Management.
