Review Your Room Assignment

Body

Beginning in early August, your final room assignment and roommates will be visible in the housing portal. 
Be sure to review the location of your hall on the UVM Campus Map. Check this page soon for detailed driving and parking directions! 

Connect With Roommates

Body

If you have roommates, we recommend connecting before you get to campus if possible! 
Aside from just breaking the ice, it gives you a chance to discuss what everybody is bringing and avoid unwanted duplicate items.

UVM has partnered with companies to make your time living on-campus even better. Here are some of the resources they provide students: 

  • MicroFridge
    • With MicroFridge you can rent a fridge and microwave for the academic year that will be delivered to you. Visit their site for more information on the products features and how to rent
  • GradGuard
    • Offer UVM students exclusive College Renters Insurance Plan since in the housing agreement UVM is not liable for any harm to your belongings
    • Features of the plan include: theft and fire protection, liability protection, and preferred rates for UVM residents 
    • Sign up for GradGuard in the housing portal by clicking on “Academic Year Housing Application”, and then click the Continue button; on the next page, click “Continue to GradGuard Sign Up”

  • Composting bags are available in every residence hall at your front desk. When full, place the whole bag in the green compost container in the main lobby of your building, and then get yourself a new bag. We do not provide a trash can.

Microfridges and Microwaves

Body

We've partnered with Microfridge for you to rent a mini fridge and microwave for the academic year, which will be delivered right to your room. Please visit their site for more details about renting your fridge or microwave. 

  • The fridge has 2 full-width shelves and space in the door for a 2-liter bottle.
  • There is also a separate freezer with a door shelf.
  • The microwave is a 700-watt turntable system with 3 cooking levels. It includes an LED clock display and electronic touchpad controls.
  • Every unit has an internal smoke detector to shut off the microwave in case of smoke.
  • Each unit has 2 USB A ports and a traditional wall outlet on the the front of the microwave.
  • Each unit is powered by only 1 plug. 

Bed Rails

Body

UVM is required to install bed safety rails on every bed. These rails should not be removed. If bed rails are removed or missing during regular Health & Safety inspections, students will be charged for reinstallation and replacement fees, as noted in the Housing & Meal Plan Contract. 

Arrival Details

Early Arrivals and Changing Arrival Days

First-Year Students

You are arriving on either Wednesday, August 20 or Thursday, August 21. Your specific move in date and time will be confirmed in your housing portal in early August (along with your room assignment).

If, due to travel arrangements, you need to switch from 8/21 to 8/22 or from 8/22 to 8/21, simply call our office and we can make that adjustment for you. We can be reached at 802-656-3434 or universityhousing@uvm.edu. There is no cost for this change.

If you are looking to arrive early, we will have a 1-day early arrival and a 2-day early arrival option available. Early arrival fees will be billed to your student account. 

One-Day early Arrival - Tuesday, August 19 - $51
Two-Day early Arrival - Monday, August 18 - $102

To notify us that you are arriving early, you must submit an Early Arrival form. Please note: if you fill out the form, you will not receive confirmation of receipt and can just plan to come the day you requested.

Returning Students

Returning students are welcome back on Sunday, August 24 anytime between 8-4:30 and classes start Monday, August 26. We will not be allowing anyone to move-in on Saturday, August 23, but we will have a 1-day early return and a 2-day early return option available. Early return fees will be billed to your student account. 

One-Day early Return - Friday, August 22 - $51
Two-Day early Return - Thursday, August 21 - $102

To notify us that you are returning early, you must submit an Early Return form. Please note: if you fill out the form, you will not receive confirmation of receipt and can just plan to come the day you requested.

Athletes and Students Arriving Early with Campus-Sponsored Programs

You do not need to complete an early arrival form and you can disregard any dates and times of move-in in your housing portals. Residential Life has received a list of names from your program coordinator, coach or supervisor and we will be expecting you on the day your program beings!

Our goal is to prevent congestion and keep traffic moving smoothly— be sure to follow any directions given by staff or volunteers. 

Ride Share/Public Transportation

Body

If you are taking ride share or public transportation, you can disregard driving directions above and simply navigate directly to your hall unless you are living on Athletic campus. 

If you are living on Athletic campus, please navigate to the Davis Center and take the shuttle that will be running all day to Athletic campus. 

Accessibility/Elevators

Body

If you or anyone accompanying you have any accessibility concerns, please share that with the first staff member you see once you are on campus so we can make necessary accommodations.

Elevators

Please note that the following buildings do NOT have elevators. For safety reasons, these buildings also do not have carts available for move-in day: 
Simpson, Hamilton, Coolidge, Redstone, Hunt, McCann, Ready, Richardson, Sichel, L/L, Converse, Cottages

Again, please let us know if you need accommodations made and we will do our best to assist.

Congratulations-- the most important step is done! Remember that while we know that this day can be stressful, we have planned every detail and moment to ensure that you have all the support you need to get settled. 



 

After Move-In

Body

Once you've moved in, there are just a few things more things to take care of. Your RA will give you instructions about the following items: 

  • Complete your Roommate Agreement
  • Complete your Room Condition Report to ensure that you are not charged for existing damage to your room when you move out. 
  • Get settled and have fun!
