A team of senior entrepreneurial engineering students: Julian Tryba (Team Leader), Cyril Brunner (UVM Start Co-Founder), David Bernstein, David Hinckley and NicholaiL’Esperance are creating a new company called “Eleview Technologies”. Eleview is one of the 2012-13 Capstone design projects within the Senior Experience in Engineering Design (SEED) Program.  Eleview has also received financial support from the UVM College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) from a grant allowing engineering students to create their own team and self-design projects.

Eleview is an autonomous flying vehicle that can capture photos and video from an aerial perspective through the use of a smartphone app. The MITRE Corporation, a not-for-profit organization, will provide research and development assistance to the Eleview team who began work on their project in April 2012. UVM Start funding will be used to buy hardware for their first commercial multirotors and to make an online store.

“The Eleview project will require these students to integrate topics from several technical areas as well as to conduct substantial research and to do some creative thinking,” says Jeff Frolik, Associate Professor in the School of Engineering and mentor for the Eleview team.

Andrew Stickney, Vice President, of the Vermont Center for Emerging Technologies (VCET) & UVM Start Co-Founder, says the goal for UVM Start is to turbo-charge entrepreneurship on campus by connecting alumni and others to these revolutionary student projects that hold the promise of becoming world game changers. The other UVM Start initiatives include:

• StacItUp - A revolutionary nordic skiing glove to the specifications of world-class athletes.
• Napo Natural - Sustainably produced energy bars infused with Ecuadorian guayusa tea leaves.
• A vertical covered Bike Station with greater security and protection for theUVM campus.
• A door-mounted, space saving ski rack.

"Alumni support could make all the difference for many student startups,” said Tucker Severson, a current UVM MBA student.  “Substantive capital and mentoring is often the difference between massive success and perpetual languish.”

The SEED projects are supported by generous contributions from outside donors, including project partner companies.
