High school students enrolled in a UVM Continuing Education course have used their talents this summer to develop prototypes for lifesaving technology in the new Vermont Fabrication Laboratory, known as The “Fab Lab” located in UVM’s College of Engineering and Mathematics Votey Hall. Students created both lobster and scorpion robots designed to enter collapsed buildings to find survivors using a new 3d laser scanner. 

The course is designed to enable high school students to do hands-on problem solving to serve humanity and obtain three college credits that can be transferred to any school in Vermont.

The UVM CEMS Fab Lab came to fruition this spring through University funding, donations and IBM contributions that provided high-end equipment.
