This week on Across the Fence, three Vermont chefs who make African diaspora food share stories of freedom and independence, along with tasty recipes for the Juneteenth holiday. These culinary artists spent the past 18 months partnering with Clemmons Family Farm in Charlotte on the African Diaspora Foodways Institute of Vermont. The project launched in January 2025 with funding from the Leahy Institute for Rural Partnerships and in partnership with CALS, as a pilot program to support Vermont African diaspora culinary artists and to help diversify Vermont’s food and tourism sectors.

Check out the June 17th, 18th, and 19th Across the Fence episodes on YouTube to meet Chef Andrew "Pops" Gonyon of Humble Revelry in Milton, Chef Julian “Jewelz” Johnson-Perkins of Jamaican Jewelz in Bellows Falls, and Chef Alganesh Michael of A Taste of Abyssinia in South Burlington.
