Since its founding in 1913, the International Honor Society Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) has recognized the outstanding academic achievements of collegiate business and management scholars.

BGS membership is by invitation-only, extended to top students at business schools accredited by the International Association to Advance College Schools of Business (AACSB). This makes it the most prestigious recognition a student of business can earn anywhere in the world. BGS lifetime members are considered the "best of the best" in business. As the highest honor attainable at an AACSB-accredited school of business, BGS membership is a symbol of high achievement and indicator of future leadership and success.

Leading University of Vermont (UVM) Grossman School of Business students were inducted into BGS in a ceremony on Friday, April 21, 2023 preceding the annual Honors Day Celebration. BGS was attended by faculty, family, and friends. This year's ceremony featured guest speaker Hillary Burrows, President, Autumn Harp. She shared her career journey with the inductees from her job as a Teaching Assistant in a Cost Accounting course to her current position as President of a Vermont-based cosmetic and skincare manufacturer. Her message to inductees was that discomfort is a catalyst for growth and change.

There are more than 600 collegiate chapters on six continents with members residing in more than 190 countries, including the UVM Grossman School of Business chapter, which founded in 1980 and recently was recognized as Beta Gamma Sigma’s 2023 Best Practice Chapter.

As well, Joanne Pencak, lecturer of accounting at GSB, was also selected as the 2023 Chapter Advisor of the Year based on her ongoing commitment to and support of GSB students and the school's chapter. "We’re honored to be recognized by Beta Gamma Sigma as a Best Practice Chapter for the work we do to promote BGS and engage our students in activities on campus,” said Barb Arel, acting dean of the Grossman School of Business and president of the BGS chapter. “We’re also proud of Joanne for going above and beyond on behalf of our students, and for her dedication to our BGS chapter.”

Congratulations to all the new BGS inductees!
