Enterprising families are a vital heartbeat of Vermont's economy and will take the stage at the Vermont Legacy and Family Enterprise Awards on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 3 – 5 p.m. in the Keller Room in Ifshin Hall. This annual event, hosted by the Grossman School of Business, celebrates innovative enterprises committed to excellence and sustainability. At the ceremony winners of the awards will be announced, with a reception will follow. UVM students are encouraged to attend, especially those who are entrepreneurial-minded and considering going into business for themselves.
Two categories of awards will be celebrated at this event: The Vermont Legacy Award and the Family Enterprise Awards. These awards recognize enterprises that stand out for their innovative practices, corporate governance, and contributions to their communities and industries. The 2023 award categories include:
Family Enterprise Awards
- 1st Generation Family Enterprise is awarded to a start-up or purchased firm with multiple family members in ownership or operations.
- Multi-Generation Family Enterprise which has completed at least one generational transfer within the family.
- Multi-Generation Global Enterprise which has completed at least one generational transfer within the family.
Vermont Legacy Enterprise for a Vermont-based business recognized for outstanding and long-lasting success.
All nominations were reviewed by a judging committee of members including past Vermont Legacy and Family Enterprise award winners along with Pramodita Sharma, Professor and Schlesinger-Grossman Chair of Family Business at the Grossman School of Business. The judging committee evaluated the nominations and selected winners in these categories based on the financial success of the company, governance of the enterprise, contributions to the community and industry, and innovative business practices or strategies.
