Grossman School of Business Academic Celebration

The Grossman School of Business (Grossman School) will hold its academic celebration following the University Commencement Ceremony on May 19, 2024 to recognize graduates and confer diplomas for the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program.

Congratulations! Welcome to the Grossman School of Business Celebration, which will take place at The Flynn in downtown Burlington starting at noon. Official conferral of all degrees will occur during the University Commencement Ceremony, which will begin at 9 a.m. on the University Green.

During the Grossman School ceremony you will receive your diploma or an empty diploma jacket if you are a walker or already received your diploma in the mail. Nicole Maria Stata ’91, founder and general partner, Boston Seed Capital, will be the guest speaker. Please see important information about the ceremony below. Grossman School Faculty and Staff are here to support you on this special day. Let us know if you need anything (water, safety pins, tums....).

Ceremony Instructions

  • Name Card: Very important. Do not lose or wrinkle. You will hand your name card to the announcer when you walk on stage.
  • Line Order: Get in line and remain in line until the ceremony begins. Double check with those around you that your line is in the correct order.

Order of Events

  1. Processional: Follow the Faculty Marshal, Professor Michael Tomas. He will assist in getting everyone in the correct seat. Remain standing.
  2. Welcome
  3. Student Address
  4. Grossman School Address
  5. Presentation of Diplomas
    - Faculty Marshal will notify your row when you should stand.
    - Follow directions to get in line to go on stage. Line up against the wall.
    - Hand your name card to the announcer. Wait until your name is announced and then proceed.
    - Shake the hand of the faculty member on stage.
    - Accept your diploma from Dean Sharma.
    - Pause for a photo with Dean Sharma.
    - Exit stage and pause for another photo. Follow the instructions of the photographer.
    - Return to your seat (follow instructions of Grossman School staff)
    - Check that you have the correct diploma if applicable. 
  6. Recessional: Dean Sharma will lead you out of The Flynn to the lobby/sidewalk area to meet your family.
  7. Reception: Please join us at Green Mountain Ballroom, Hilton Burlington Lake Champlain Hotel, 60 Battery Street immediately following the Academic Celebration.

If you arrive late, you will be escorted to a seat and receive an empty diploma jacket. Your diploma will be mailed to you.
