Partners from two of the College's community development and applied economics (CDAE) department travel-abroad courses visited campus for a week of training in October. Clockwise from right front, CDAE's Dan Baker makes a point about research methodology during a discussion with Alba Rose Aquilar from Honduras; Nancy Francis Charles, Lyria Thomas and Clebert Hyacinth (behind her), all from St. Lucia; Erik Josue Saenz and Joel Felipe Reyes from Honduras; Thomas DeSisto of UVM's Center for Rural Studies; CDAE's Charles Kerchner and Gary Flomenhoft, who teach a St. Lucia course; and Cynthia Labadie from St. Lucia. CALS trains these project leaders and government officials during their visits to campus, and they are service-learning project leaders when they host students from the College. CALS sends students from the fall semester class, "Sustainable Development in Small Island States: St. Lucia," to that country every January. A spring semester class travels to Honduras each summer to work on any of six projects. The St. Lucia visitors are ministry officials. The Hondurans work for the nonprofit agency, Aldea Global (Global Village). ~Contributed photo.
